PRIIPs Regulation

In July 2012, the European Commission published legislative proposals aimed at improving the comprehensibility and comparability of PRIIPs, ensuring specified key information about PRIIPs is provided to retail investors in the EU in a standardised form before they invest. Regulation (EU) 1286/2014 on key information documents for packaged retail and insurance-based investment products (the PRIIPs Regulation), along with related Commission delegated regulations, are intended to help retail investors compare different types of PRIIPs and understand if the PRIIP is appropriate.

PRIIPs are defined in the PRIIPs Regulation and cover a range of investment products (which can take different legal forms) that are marketed to retail investors. Broadly, they can be categorised into four groups:
