FCA fines Sigma Broking £1.1m for transaction reporting failures

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has fined Sigma Broking Limited (Sigma) £1,087,300 for breaching Article 26 of the UK Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation (MiFIR) and Principle 3 of the FCA's Principles for Businesses.

SRA and FCA warn firms over motor finance claims practices

In anticipation of the Supreme Court judgement, the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) have issued a joint warning to law firms and claims management companies (CMCs) to make sure that they are in compliance with the rules around how motor finance commission claims should be handled. The SRA and FCA require firms to inform clients about potential free redress schemes before signing any agreements, as consumers using these services may forfeit up to 30% of any award in fees.

OFSI issues penalty to company for Russia sanctions breach

The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) has issued a £300,000 penalty on Markom Management Limited (MML) for breaching UK financial sanctions against Russia. The breach involved MML instructing a payment of £416,590.92 to a designated individual subject to an asset freeze under sanctions introduced following Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. MML acted with knowledge of the recipient’s designation and failed to implement adequate compliance and control measures. This enforcement action underscores the necessity for all firms to assess their exposure to sanctions risks, maintain robust compliance systems and promptly report suspected breaches to the OFSI.

Residential mortgages: PRA seeks views on loss given default and probability of default estimation

The Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) has published discussion paper DP1/25—Residential mortgages: Loss given default (LGD) and probability of default (PD) estimation. It sets out possible options to make it easier for mid-sized firms to scale-up and compete in the residential mortgage market, and is now opening a wide discussion with industry on how best to do so. Responses are sought by 31 October 2025.
