HMRC has published the rates and thresholds for employers for 2026-2027.The guidance summarises the 2025–26 rates and thresholds for employers operating a payroll or providing benefits and expenses to their employees. It includes figures and guidance on:

DBT launches consultation on fire and rehire protections for expenses and shifts

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has launched a consultation seeking views on two proposed changes to fire and rehire protections relating to employment expenses, benefits, and shift patterns under the Employment Rights Act 2025. The consultation, published on 4 February 2026, seeks feedback on which specific expenses, benefits, and shift changes should be covered by protections that will make dismissal automatically unfair where employees are dismissed or replaced to make changes to core contract terms designated as 'restricted variations'. The Act will prevent employers from using fire and rehire practices to impose less favourable terms on employees once commenced. The consultation applies to England, Scotland and Wales and closes at 11:59pm on 1 April 2026. The proposals will require Parliamentary approval before taking effect.

Government publishes updated timeline for implementing ERA 2025

The government on 3 February 2026 published an updated timeline for implementing provisions in the Employment Rights Act 2025 (ERA 2025).

Key provisions of Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 to come into force on 5 February 2026

The Secretary of State has made the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 (DUAA 2025) (Commencement No 6 and Transitional and Saving Provisions) Regulations 2026, SI 2026/82, which bring the majority of the DUAA 2025’s data protection reforms into force from 5 February 2026. These regulations commence provisions relating to research and statistical purposes, consent to processing for scientific research, the lawfulness of processing, purpose limitation, data subject requests, automated decision-making, data protection by design for children, and the transfers of personal data to third countries, among others. Further provisions concerning complaints by data subjects will come into force on 19 June 2026.
