SIAC highlights rule reforms and institutional developments in 2025 review
The Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) has published its 2025 year in review, highlighting key rule reforms, institutional initiatives and international outreach undertaken during the year. These include the introduction of the 7th edition of the SIAC Arbitration Rules (SIAC Rules 2025) and a revised schedule of fees, which came into force on 1 January 2025. The rules introduced new procedures, including a three-month streamlined procedure, preliminary determination and co-ordinated proceedings, and enhanced existing mechanisms, such as the option to apply ex parte for preliminary protective orders in emergency arbitration and an increased threshold for the six-month expedited procedure. SIAC also launched the Restructuring and Insolvency Arbitration Protocol (RIA Protocol), which applies by party agreement and adapts the SIAC Rules to address restructuring and insolvency-related disputes. In addition, SIAC announced the establishment of the Institute of Ethics in International Arbitration (IEIA), which will focus on research, training and the development of best practices on ethics in international arbitration.
