Embedding learning and development (L&D)

L&D is often viewed as a standalone function that is detached from the day-to-day running of the firm. For it to deliver maximum value for money, it needs to be an integral part of the business. To do that it must:

  1. be clearly aligned with the business strategy, eg L&D goals need to filter down to department and individual level

  2. engage with employees on an individual level, eg give them transparency and control over their learning

  3. produce measurable results, eg progress is measured via the appraisals process and performance development plans
