43 The cross-compliance conditions1

A farmer claiming under the Basic Payment Scheme must comply with the cross-compliance conditions, relevant to his holding, unless any exemptions or derogations apply.

The cross-compliance obligations comprise:

  1. 43.1

        Good Agricultural and Environmental Conditions (GAECs) which are measures imposed by member states or regions to protect and maintain soil and organic matter and to preserve wildlife habitats and landscape features through a minimum level of maintenance.

  2. 43.2

        Statutory Management Requirements (SMRs) which are EU statutory obligations dealing with public, animal and plant health, the environment, food safety and animal welfare.
