44 The greening rules

The greening rules are a set of agricultural practices which are beneficial to the climate and the environment and which go beyond the requirements of the cross compliance rules1. A farmer who claims under the Basic Payment Scheme must adhere to the greening rules (or equivalent practices2) on all their eligible hectares.

There are three greening practices as follows:

  1. 44.1

        the crop diversification rule3;

  2. 44.2

        the ecological focus area (EFA) rule4; and

  3. 44.3

        the permanent grassland rule5.
