269 Management options and capital grants

Before submitting an application under the higher level stewardship scheme (HLS), an applicant had to prepare a Farm Environment Plan, identifying all the environmental features on the land. He then had to select environmental management options from over 100 options available to apply to the land to go into the scheme. Each option had different payment rates depending on the environmental benefit.

The HLS scheme also had the facility to provide capital grants payable on special projects or historic features1. The options chosen were described on the Farm Environment Record.
