Spotlight on Corruption (SoC) has published the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) response to its letter, which urged the NCA to coordinate the UK’s response to breaches of political finance laws and address the criminal enforcement gap. In the response letter, the NCA set out its activities in relation to criminal enforcement of UK political finance laws, however, it did not indicate that it wants to play a central role. SoC has stated that the letter suggests that the NCA’s perspective is that poor criminal enforcement has arisen from problems with those electoral finance laws.
