The Futures Industry Association (FIA) has published its yearly statistics for 2020, which show that the total number of futures and options traded on exchanges worldwide reached a record level of 46.77 billion contracts, a 35.6% increase on 2019. For just futures, trading increased 32.7.3%to 25.55 billion, and for just options, trading increased 39.3% to 21.22 billion. As a result, 2020 represents the third year in a row in which there has been a record total trading activity in the global exchange-traded derivatives markets.
