The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has opened a consultation seeking views on a proposal to increase selected court and tribunal fees, to partially reflect changes in the general level of prices. The MoJ has said that the proposals are to make increases to a selection of court and tribunal fees from 2024; make routine updates to fees every two years and set the council tax liability order fee under the Lord Chancellor’s ‘enhanced’ power with a view to retaining its £0.50 value. In the consultation document, the MoJ has said that delivering the proposed fee increases is expected to raise between an estimated additional £34m and £42m each year. The consultation will close on 22 December 2023.
