Article summary
The Local Government Association (LGA) has warned that several councils have been subjected to a fraudulent coronavirus (COVID-19) related scam with criminals claiming to be from the NHS Test and Trace Service. Fraudsters have been contacting residents via phone, emails and text messages requesting their bank details to pay for coronavirus testing kits. The NHS Test and Trace Service is free and aims to reduce the spread of coronavirus by quickly testing people with symptoms and either phoning, texting or emailing whoever they have had close contact with to tell them to self-isolate for 14 days. The LGA is requesting that all suspicious incidents are to be reported to Action Fraud.
