SCTS launches enhanced Civil Online platform with new digital submission capabilities

The Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) has launched the latest enhancements to Civil Online, introducing digital submission of non-initiating documents in the Court of Session for around 90% of case types, alongside improved case tracking in the Sheriff Court. The update expands document visibility, increases upload limits to 125MB for up to ten files per submission, and supports a broader range of case types. These changes aim to make civil processes more efficient, transparent, and user-friendly, representing a significant step towards a fully digital, end-to-end civil justice system under the Civil Change Lab’s modernisation strategy.

Ireland urges EU-wide ‘country of origin’ rule to end digital law fragmentation

MLex: Ireland has called on the European Commission to make the country-of-origin principle a cornerstone of its upcoming digital simplification package, arguing that predictable cross-border rules are essential to reduce the patchwork of overlapping EU digital laws. In the letter dated 14 October 2025, Ireland also urged the commission to clarify the interplay between major digital regulations through harmonized definitions and coordinated enforcement, warning that without such steps, Europe’s digital single market risks being undermined by regulatory incoherence.

Ireland—Law Society of Ireland backs LSRA proposals to streamline complaints process

The Law Society of Ireland has endorsed recommendations from the Legal Services Regulation Authority (LSRA) to amend the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015, allowing earlier dismissal of manifestly inadmissible complaints. The LSRA's review, containing 28 recommendations, aims to address the current requirement to formally investigate all complaints against legal practitioners, despite around half being inadmissible or not upheld annually since 2019. Additional proposals include prohibiting practitioners from issuing court proceedings against complainants alleging excessive costs until matters are determined, and enabling mediation at any stage of the complaints process.
