115 Notification

The designation of a site of special scientific interest is a two stage process. First, where Natural England and the Natural Resources Body for Wales is of the opinion that any area of land is of special interest by reason of any of its flora, fauna, or geological or physiographical features1, Natural England and the Natural Resources Body for Wales falls under a duty to notify that fact to the local planning authority in whose area the land is situated, to every owner and occupier2 of the land and to the Secretary of State.
