Article summary
The Scottish Government has announced the launch of a new digital evidence service, to help manage evidence across the justice system and limit the amount of time that witnesses need to attend to court. The Digital Evidence Sharing Capability service (DESC) has begun its pilot in Dundee, and has provided prosecutors, court staff, police officers and defence lawyers with access to a unified system to handle evidence digitally. This includes CCTV footage, photographs, and data and other materials from computers and mobile devices, and is expected to be expanded to include documents and recordings of police interviews as well. A nationwide roll out is planned for later in 2023.
