ONR calls for electrical safety improvements at Sellafield

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has served an Improvement Notice on Sellafield Ltd (Sellafield) following electrical safety incidents across the site. While the ONR announces they are satisfied that Sellafield is meeting high standards expected with regards to nuclear safety, sustained improvements are required in electrical safety. This is following several electrical events at Sellafield that have been subject to enquiries or investigations by ONR over recent months. For example, in December 2020 Sellafield was fined £320,000 following an electrical event in April 2020, which resulted in a worker sustaining serious injuries. Sellafield must comply with the notice by 15 January 2022.
