The Office of Rail and Road (ORR) has published the ‘Annual Report of Health and Safety Performance on Britain’s Railways 2019/20’, detailing the HM Chief Inspector of Railways’ and the regulator’s reviews of the 2019–20 period, as well as analysing the key roles of key industry bodies and ORR’s enforcement activities. HM Chief Inspector of Railways, Ian Prosser CBE, says that across 2019–20 ‘we have seen important progress both in level crossing safety, with a repeat of last year’s lowest-ever number of level crossing fatalities (two) and the publication of Network Rail’s long-term strategy for efficient improvements to level crossings. Network Rail also continues to improve electrical and track asset safety'.
