The International Trade and Forfaiting Association (ITFA) has released a guide to Structured Letters of Credit. Through the guide, ITFA is seeking to provide clarity on these instruments which ‘provide substantial funding to trade in emerging markets, but have often attracted controversy because of a lack of understanding of what they are and what they are seeking to achieve.’ The guidance includes the history and development of Structured Letters of Credit and provides information on their typical characteristics, commercial purposes legal, anti-money laundering and risk issues and more. The guide is available to ITFA members.
