The International Development Committee’s Sub-Committee on the work of the Independent Commission for Aid Impact has published a report on the UK’s approach to tackling modern slavery through the aid programme, in which the government was urged to improve its work on the fight against modern slavery after an independent watchdog scored the work as ‘unsatisfactory achievement in most areas with some positive elements’. The Sub-Committee expressed concern on the effectiveness of the UK’s work on tackling the issue, finding limited long-term impact, existing international interventions were not utilised and more could be done for modern slavery survivors.
