The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has reported that Alexander Gennadievich Ermakov has been sanctioned. Ermanov played a role in the ransomware attack against Medibank Private Limited in 2022, which resulted in the personally identifiable information and sensitive health information of approximately 9.7 million current and former customers as well as authorised representatives being stolen. Under the Cyber (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020, SI 2020/597, Ermanov has been added to the Consolidated List and is subject to an asset freeze.
