The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) has committed to launching a technical consultation on amendments to the national planning policy in which it will examine the approach of local authorities when demonstrating local support on onshore wind development in England. Under the proposals, the granting of a planning permission will be dependent on a project demonstrating local support and addressing impacts identified by the local community. It will also seek views on developing local partnerships for supportive communities and the requirement that local authorities demonstrate their support for certain areas as being suitable for onshore wind. The consultation is expected to be opened before 25 December 2022 and run until April 2023.
