Article summary

The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has announced a US$ 134,523 settlement with Amazon.com, Inc (Amazon). Amazon will pay the amount in settlement of its potential liability for ‘apparent violations of multiple OFAC sanctions programs’. Due to deficiencies in Amazon’s sanctions screening processes, Amazon provided goods and services to individuals sanctioned by OFAC, individuals located in sanctioned regions or countries and individuals employed by the foreign missions of countries sanctioned by OFAC. Additionally, Amazon did not comply with a general license with a requirement of mandatory reporting.
