Business Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has called for a full national security assessment relating to Altice’s acquisition of a further 6% of shares in BT. Under the National Security and Investment Act 2021, the government has powers to both examine and intervene in qualifying acquisitions on the grounds of national security. The government has 30 working days (increasable by a further 45 working days), to conduct its evaluation.
