Published on: 12 September 2023

Article summary

Arbitration analysis: In August 2023, the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC), headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but servicing the Southeast Asian region and beyond, released revisions to its Arbitration Rules (AIAC 2023 Rules), its i-Arbitration Rules (for Islamic arbitration involving principles of Shariah law), and its AIAC Mediation Rules, all of which are effective as of 24 August 2023. As per the recent proposed rule revisions of the prominent Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), a consultation draft of which was released on 22 August 2023, the clear themes addressed in the AIAC 2023 Rules are increased clarity of rules; the recognition of recent developments in arbitral practice; and optimisation of procedures to result in time and cost efficiencies for users.
