Can court proceedings be issued where a defendant's vehicle registration number is not known? The defendant bus company and their representatives have admitted liability and provided details of nominated solicitors. However, they cannot confirm the vehicle registration number as they can't be sure which bus it was that caused the damage.

There is no reason in principle why such a claim could not be issued. There is no requirement in the Civil Procedure Rules that a particular vehicle be identified by registration number in a road traffic accidents claim,
