197th Practice Direction update—Damages Claims Pilot amendment and corrections to 196th update—in force on 1 October 2026 and 16 September 2026

The Master of the Rolls and the Minister of State have approved the 197th PD update to the CPR. It amends CPR PD 51ZB—the Damages Claims Pilot (DCP)—and corrects minor drafting errors in the 196th PD update.

The amendment to CPR PD 51ZB came into force on 1 October 2026. The corrections to the 196th update came into force on 16 September 2026, the day after ministerial approval.

The Ministry of Justice has confirmed that the amendments to CPR PD 51ZB expand the definition of 'other remedy claims' to expressly include specific performance in housing disrepair claims, this not having been made clear in the 195th PD update.
