189th practice direction update—12 August 2025

The Master of the Rolls and the Minister of State for Justice have approved the 189th PD update to the CPR. The amendments come into force at 11 am on 12 August 2025. The 187th PD update amends CPR PD 51R (Online Civil Money Claims (OCMC) pilot) to enable cases in the OCMC to remain online after a ‘Notice of Change’ is filed by a defendant’s legal representative and makes other minor changes. The update also amends CPR PD 51ZB (Damages Claims Pilot (DCP)) to remove paragraph 8.6 (relating to discontinuance)—this was intended to be removed as part of the 184th Practice Direction update but was omitted in error.
