The European Commission has adopted a new Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy to accelerate the transition to a circular, decarbonised and resilient European economy. The Strategy sets out how EU institutions, industry and primary producers will expand the sustainable use of biological resources from land and sea while safeguarding environmental limits. It aims to strengthen competitiveness, reduce dependence on fossil imports and support economic growth by scaling up bio-based sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, aquaculture, biomanufacturing and biotechnologies.
