Profits a prendre

What is a profit à prendre?

A profit à prendre is a right to take natural resources from another person’s land. Examples of profits include:

•
parts of the land itself such as sand, peat or minerals
•
products growing on the land such as grass or timber—this includes grazing rights
•
wild animals such as fish or game

The products taken must be capable of ownership so there cannot be a profit of water (unless it is contained in a tank or other receptacle).

RICS responds to BEC’s report on high street regeneration

RICS responds to MHCLG and DESNZ joint consultation on EPB regime reforms

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has expressed support for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG)’s and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)'s joint consultation on reforms to the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPB) regime in England and Wales, stating that it ‘represents a critical step toward ensuring homes and buildings contribute meaningfully to the UK’s net-zero’. The proposed changes focus on modernising Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) methodologies, improving compliance mechanisms, and streamlining tools for improved accessibility and usability. RICS emphasises the importance of these reforms in supporting the Warm Homes Programme and addressing landlords' concerns about minimum energy efficiency standards in the rental sector.

Prime Minister announces Plan for Change to deliver national missions

The Prime Minister has announced a comprehensive Plan for Change, outlining key milestones to deliver national missions by the end of the current Parliament. The plan includes commitments to fast-tracking planning decisions on over 150 major economic infrastructure projects and constructing 1.5 million homes across England. It also focuses on securing home-grown energy, targeting at least 95% of low carbon generation by 2030, in line with advice from the National Energy System Operator (NESO). In addition, the government intends to publish ten-year strategies for housing and infrastructure in Spring 2025, detailing key priorities and a project pipeline for investors and supply chains.
