The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has announced that it has worked alongside the Home Office to develop technology to allow police officers dealing with motoring offences to confirm a driver’s identity at the roadside. The technology gives police officers instant access to a driver’s photo from the DVLA’s driver database, which allows them to quickly confirm a driver’s identity. It is currently being used by 18 police forces in the UK, and is planned to be rolled out to a further ten in the coming weeks.
