The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has published its data protection and journalism code of practice which it has submitted to the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). The code is to help the media apply data protection law in a journalism context and builds upon guidance from 2014. For the code to enter into force, the statutory process set out in section 125 of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA 2018) must be completed and the code laid before Parliament by the Secretary of State.
