The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has reminded employers of their responsibiltiies to keep workers safe during cold weather. This comes as the Met Office issued a level three cold weather alert until 15 December 2022. Employers are under a legal obligation to provide a ‘reasonable’ temperature in the workplace under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, SI 1992/3004 and the Approved Code of Practice suggests a minimum of 16 degrees Celsius and 13 degrees Celsius if the work involves rigorous physical effort.
