The Scottish Government has updated the guidance for the licensing of short-term lets, which reflect the final provisions set out in the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 (Licensing of Short-term Lets) Order 2022, SSI 2022/32. The Order requires authorities from 1 October 2022, to have established licensing schemes in their areas to accept licensing applications from short-term let accommodation (now including guest houses) hosts and operators. The new rules also require new hosts to apply for a short-term let licence prior to accepting bookings or receiving guests and existing hosts must apply for a licence before 1 April 2023. The final deadline for all operator and hosts to have a licence is 1 July 2024.
