The Environment Agency (EA), together with officers from Lincolnshire Police, Boston Borough Council, HM Revenue & Customs and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), has announced that, as a result of the co-ordinated Operation Clean Sweep, which aims to reduce and prevent illegal waste activities, on 16 and 17 September 2021, 59 vehicles were stopped and checked to ensure they were operating correctly. The stop checks resulted in the prevention of approximately 10 tonnes of construction being disposed of illegally, three vehicles seized from drivers, 14 DVSA prohibitions notices issued against vehicles, seven Fixed Penalty Notices issued to unlicensed waste carriers and one on the spot fine of £550 issued for use of red diesel. According to the EA, vehicles illegally carrying scrap metal, waste white goods, green waste and end of life vehicles were also stopped and follow up enquiries are being made.
