Article summary

Lord Reed, President of the Supreme Court and Chairman of the Judicial Committee, has approved a new practice concerning the filing of documents over the coming weeks. Currently there are no plans to close the Registry before the Easter break, yet if parties prefer not to travel to court to file their documents, parties can email their papers to registry@supremecourt.uk or registry@jcpc.uk, specifying the means they plan to file by—post, DX or courier. If this method is undertaken, the document will be treated as having been filed on the next business day. Moreover, Lord Reed has confirmed that time limits will be applied flexibly, and parties should keep in mind the overriding objective of the relevant procedural rules that unnecessary disputes over procedural matters are discouraged.
