Corporate Crime analysis: On 19 July 2017, a statutory instrument amending the Criminal Procedure Rules 2015, SI 2015/1490 (CrimPR) was published. The Criminal Procedure (Amendment No 3) Rules 2017, SI 2017/755 amends the CrimPR to require the Crown Court, when giving directions for trial at the plea and trial preparation hearing, to ensure proper explanations have been given to the defendant regarding credit for a guilty pleas. The amended rules also facilitate service of documents in extradition appeal proceedings by electronic means and supply procedures to supplement the Criminal Justice (European Investigation Order) Regulations 2017 and the Criminal Finances Act 2017 as well as making miscellaneous other minor amendments to the CrimPR.
