The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has reported that an additional £2.7m has been recovered from two defendants, Syed Mubarak Ahmed and Shakeel Ahmad, who were convicted in 2007 for their involvement in a £12.6m conspiracy to defraud HMRC and sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment. The CPS has said that the original case involved 21 defendants, and that proceeds of crime proceedings have now resulted in the recovery of more than £10m from these two defendants alone.
