The Council of the EU has adopted a regulation which establishes geographical indication (GI) protection for craft and industrial products like jewellery, textiles and glass. The European Union Intellectual Property Office will administer the registration procedures for this new protection system. This move enables the EU to use a single registration procedure for appellations of origins and GIs, taking full advantage of the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement 2015 for protecting non-agricultural products and upholding its international legal obligations under it.
