The Department of Health and Social Care has announced that stronger coronavirus (COVID-19) measures will be introduced in Bolton to tackle spread of the virus, as cases reach 120 per 100,000—the highest in the country. Following consultation between Bolton Council, the government and Public Health England new restrictive measures will come into law effective immediately. These include restricting people from socialising outside their household both in homes and public outdoor settings, restricting all hospitality for food and drink to takeaway only, and requiring venues to close from 10 pm to 5 am. In addition, face coverings must be worn on public transport and failure to do so could result in a fine.
