Article summary

Dispute Resolution analysis: The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and the Legal Services Board (LSB) have responded to the consultation paper issued by the Judicial Executive Board (JEB) proposing reforms to the existing guidance for McKenzie friends—non-lawyers who offer assistance and in some cases seek to appear as advocates on behalf of litigants in person (LiPs). One of the proposals in the consultation was for a prohibition on McKenzie friends recovering fees and the SRA and LSB have stated that in their opinion, the case has not been made out for such a ban.
