The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) has announced the release of the Cooperation Mechanism (‘the Mechanism’) on Foreign Law Ascertainment of the Belt and Road Arbitration Institutions. The announcement was made on 6 September 2023 at the 2023 China Arbitration Summit and the 3rd Belt and Road Arbitration Institutions Forum. The aim of the Mechanism is twofold, firstly, to facilitate members at the ascertainment of foreign laws in international commercial cases and improve the reliability of information on foreign laws. Secondly, to promote both collaboration and exchanges in dispute resolution, and high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, and enhance legal cooperation.
