European Parliament publishes analysis on digital assets and stablecoin risks ahead of ECON hearing
The European Parliament has released an in-depth analysis on digital assets ahead of the 3 December 2025 ECON public hearing, outlining the evolving EU regulatory framework, current market developments and emerging risks. While unbacked cryptoassets remain volatile, the report highlights that stablecoins—centralised in governance yet reliant on decentralized ledgers—now underpin around 80% of cryptoasset trades. Their growing role raises concerns around financial stability, operational vulnerabilities and regulatory divergence between the Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1114) (MiCA Regulation) and the more permissive US Guaranteed and Insured Necessary Infrastructure for Upholding Stability Act (GENIUS Act).
