This Practice Note provides guidance on Directive (EU) 2015/2302 on package travel and linked travel arrangements (the ‘EU Package Travel Directive or EU PTD’).

The aim of the EU PTD is to introduce a high, uniform level of consumer protection in the context of travel services which are sold as a package deal. It applies to all companies selling travel services in this way to consumers in the European Economic Area. Exactly what it means for travel services to be sold as a package deal is part of what the EU PTD aims to clarify, and this is set out in more detail below.

To track related case law, see Practice Note: EU consumer protection cases tracker.

Note, businesses to whom the EU PTD relates, are also likely to be subject to general EU consumer protection legislation as well. For more information, see Practice Note: Key EU consumer legislation—summary.
