GBE launches £1bn Energy Engineered in the UK programme to boost clean energy supply chains

Great British Energy (GBE) has launched the £1bn Energy Engineered in the UK (EEUK) programme to strengthen domestic clean energy supply chains and support long-term economic growth. The programme includes the immediate opening of a £300m GBE Supply Chain Fund: Offshore Wind & Networks to address critical manufacturing bottlenecks, alongside the creation of a new Deepwater Wind Commercialisation Programme to accelerate deployment of floating and deepwater offshore wind technologies. Further detail on the remaining £700m of EEUK investment will be announced in 2026.

Ofgem consults on draft determinations for RIIO-2 Medium Sized Investment Projects

Ofgem has launched a consultation on its Draft Determinations and draft direction concerning five Medium Sized Investment Project (MSIP) applications submitted by National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) under the RIIO-2 price control framework. The MSIP re-opener mechanism enables Electricity Transmission Owners to request additional funding for projects below £100m where baseline allowances are insufficient. Ofgem proposes to allow £20.309m of the £22.365m requested for the RIIO-ET2 period and £13.117m for RIIO-ET3. The projects include extensions and upgrades at Anglo Scottish, Walpole, Cilfynydd, Swansea North and Upper Boat substations, primarily to support system operability and grid stability services requested by the National Energy System Operator as part of its Stability Pathfinder Phase 3. One project involves extending the Anglo Scottish Operational Tripping System to mitigate boundary constraints. The consultation closes on 19 January 2026.

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a consultation on proposed load control licence regulations and conditions under the Smart Secure Electricity Systems (SSES) Programme. The consultation invites feedback on draft regulations and licence conditions governing load control for domestic-scale energy smart appliances. These include electric vehicle charge points, heat pumps, and battery energy storage systems.
