Insolvency Service reports suspended sentence for former pub owner after BBL fraud
The Insolvency Service has reported that Gary Wright, a former St Helens pub owner, received a two-year suspended prison sentence for failing to disclose his bankruptcy status when applying for a £25,000 bounce back loan (BBL) in June 2020. Wright applied for the BBL despite the closure of his pub during September 2019 and his bankruptcy being declared in February 2020. The court ordered Wright to complete 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £1,500 in costs. The loan has been repaid in full and Wright remains an undischarged bankrupt, having been legally required to declare this status when seeking credit exceeding £500.
