The UK Covid-19 Inquiry has published a further notice extending the deadline for compliance with the Chair's earlier section 21 Notice from 22 May 2023 to 1 June 2023. This is in relation to Boris Johnson’s WhatsApp messages and notebooks, which the Cabinet Office has now informed the Inquiry it does not hold. The Chair has amended the notice so that if the Cabinet Office maintains its position that it does not hold specified materials, it must provide in substitute a witness statement from a senior civil servant, verified by a statement of truth explaining this position in relation to any of the materials they claim to not hold, including a full chronology of correspondence with Johnson.
