Article summary
The Department for Education (DfE) has issued guidance for parents and carers of children attending out-of-school settings during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The guidance covers changes to after-school clubs, holiday clubs, tuition, community activities and other out-of-school settings for children and young people over the age of five during the pandemic. Clubs and activities for children will only be able to operate in those premises legally able to open. The DfE stated that as these setting reopen ‘it is crucial that we are minimising the risk of transmission of the virus due to increased mixing between different groups of children’, and as such, parents and carers are advised to ‘consider sending your child to the same setting consistently’. The guidance document addresses key matters such as what activities and out-of-school clubs children can attend and whether parents and carers can attend an out-of-school setting to supervise their child during a session.
