Ofcom has released a report which details the findings from its research, titled Mobile Matters, into how people used their mobile phones during the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown. The research analysed how 200,000 people used their Android mobile phone between 1 January 2020–30 April 2020. The report reveals 'the average length of mobile calls in April was 5 minutes 26 seconds – up from 3 minutes 40 seconds before the coronavirus restrictions came in.' During lockdown, the city centres of all four of the UK’s capitals saw a decline in mobile activity, while activity increased in areas with open spaces like parks.
