The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has announced that landmark reforms will be made for victims of crime to ensure that victims are better heard, served and protected. A consultation has been launched into the proposed reforms including a requirement for prosecutors to meet the victims of certain crimes before making charging decisions and community impact statements for victimless crimes. The consultation also sets out that there are plans to increase the Victim Surcharge to a £100 minimum to ensure higher contributions from offenders when sentenced for crimes. The consultation closes on 3 February 2022.
