Interpol has announced that it is celebrating the ten–year anniversary of its dedicated Environmental Security Programme, which was established in 2010, to tackle serious organised environmental crime. Among some of Interpol’s achievements in that time include seizing over one million truckloads of illegal timber and more than 200,000 protected wildlife and marine species, detaining and seizing hundreds of vessels and vehicles transporting protected wildlife, timber and illegal waste or which were illegally fishing, and detecting almost 6,000 cases of marine pollution and waste trafficking.
